Mosjøen’s Via Ferrata!

Join us on an exhilarating mountain adventure on the world’s northernmost via ferrata. Take the challenge and feel the satisfaction as you reach the summit!

Via ferrata means “iron path”. Clip yourself onto the cable that is securely attached to the mountainside, and ascend safely using the natural holds and steps in the rock. This mountain-climbing adventure doesn’t require any specialised knowledge or prior experience. The route is classified as B/C, easy to moderately difficult, making it a fun and exciting way to climb a mountain that is within most people’s reach.

Øyfjellet awaits you just outside by Mosjøen town centre. The first part of our journey climbs the newly-built Sherpa Path, up the narrow Trongskaret pass. The via ferrata itself starts at 350 metres altitude. Here we connect your harness to the first stretch of cable. After a while, we reach a viewpoint where we unpack our lunch and savour the incredible panorama of Mosjøen and its environs. The second stretch of the via ferrata takes us to the summit, 660 metres. Our descent follows a regular hiking trail down to the rock stairs called Helgelandstrappa, and thence to our starting point.

Combine your via ferrata adventure with a ride on the zipline!

We invite you to conclude your mountain adventure by soaring down Storfjellet on our zipline. It’s a guaranteed adrenaline rush. Your flight down the 700 metre long zipline takes you across the river and lands you safely in the gardens of Fru Haugans Hotel. This hotel, the oldest in northern Norway, is situated at the end of the historic Sjøgata street, renowned for its well-preserved wooden houses. All in all, this is a day of memorable adventures.

Important information

Our total ascent is 660 metres, of which 400 metres is the via ferrata. All participants must be in fairly good shape and not have difficulties with a little exposure to heights. However, no prior climbing experience is required. The via ferrata is a carefully prepared route, with a cable that is securely anchored to the mountain at least every three metres.

We provide a helmet and a climbing harness, which has a built-in shock absorber and two carabiner slings. These carabiners securely attach you to the anchored cable. You ascend using natural holds and steps in the mountain, and you may use the cable as an extra grip. Here and there, actual steps have been added. At the cable’s anchor points –  every 3 metres – you move one carabiner sling at a time past the anchor. Our guide will give you thorough instructions before we start. As mentioned, you need not have any prior climbing experience.

All participants must be at least 12 years old and weigh at least 40 kg (88 lbs). Weight is important for the equipment to work properly. You are required to sign a release form confirming that you accept the risk of this adventure. An experienced guide accompanies every group.

Wear sturdy hiking boots with soles that ensure good traction on the rocky slopes. Even in the summer the mountain can be much cooler, and the weather is changeable, so please bring a windbreaker and windproof trousers, an extra sweater, a hat, and a neck gaiter in your daysack. Gloves are also recommended and can be purchased from your guide before our journey starts. In your daysack, also bring a packed lunch and a bottle of water.
